Wendy hails from the Dominican Republic and moved to the U.S. about 15 years ago. Growing up, she played a lot of sports in her tiny town of Borrio Las Felipina with her cousin and friends.
One time, she saw tennis on TV and said to herself, “I would like to play tennis”. That thought was set aside until she picked up a racquet at 30 years old. She started as a 3.0 in 2014, the year when her 9 year and 6 year olds started playing as well. And they became a tennis family.
She got bumped to 3.5 the following year and then again to 4.0 the year after. Worthy of note, Wendy is undefeated in singles the past two years. After talking to friends, they suggested that she should teach tennis… and here she is!
So in 2018, she began training even more and completed USTA workshops for 10 & under and 15 & under beginner levels. You will see Wendy teaching our Tiny Tots program as well as private lessons.
Drew is a rising senior at Bishop England high school. She has played 3 years on the Bishop England girls’ tennis team and also trains at the Family Circle tennis center to pursue her college tennis aspirations.
She is also an ambassador for the South Carolina Junior Tennis Foundation. She has volunteered at the Family Circle Cup for 12 years as ball crew and is a member of the Junior Team Tennis Leadership Committee. She has previously coached at Snee Farm Tennis Club, and is a most welcome addition to the I’On Club coaching staff.
Drew was born and raised on Daniel Island.
