Emzi Wewers joined the I’On Club team in July 2015 as Director of Membership. She accepted the position of General Manager in July 2017. Emzi has spent 15 years working in all areas of club operations, all in the Charleston area, including membership, marketing, golf operations, food and beverage, catering and events, accounting and maintenance. She began her hospitality career working at Walt Disney World.
Emzi grew up in Batesburg-Leesville, South Carolina. She moved to Charleston to attend Johnson and Wales University. She lives in Mt. Pleasant with her husband, Drew, and son, Quinn.
Maggie comes to us from Burn San Francisco as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. She believes exercise to be an essential part of a healthy and happy lifestyle, providing not only physical benefits, but mental and psychological nurturing as well. As a lifelong athlete, coach and trainer, Maggie has experienced firsthand the transformative power of fitness, and strives to share this experience with The I’On Club members. Drawing on a wide range of exercise disciplines, such as Pilates, weight training, plyometrics, and kickboxing, Maggie’s workouts are effective, dynamic, engaging, and fun!
Chef Owen Gaube grew up in an Italian family in Ithaca, New York. As a child he watched his mother and grandmother prepare traditional Italian meals from scratch. This ignited a culinary passion which led him to Johnson and Wales University in Charleston, SC in 1999. After graduating and working in several Italian restaurants in Charleston he took his talents to Beaufort, SC where he developed a deeper love and appreciation for fresh and local seafood and produce. Despite his love for the city of Beaufort, Charleston called him home. Upon his arrival back into Charleston he worked as a Chef for Trattoria Lucca and opened their sister restaurant Coda del Pesce where he honed his culinary skills. His culinary adventure has now led him to the Porch Restaurant at I’On Club. Chef Gaube is equally inspired by and versatile in cooking with local and international ingredients. He strongly believes in sourcing locally and elevating flavors. His philosophy is that a meal should be an occasion and memorable. He is excited to lead the culinary team at I’On Club!
Jen grew up in Novi, Michigan and then attended Michigan State University in East Lansing, MI where she received her Bachelor of Science, Interdisciplinary Studies in Health & minor in Psychology. After graduating in 2011, she moved to Charleston to pursue a master’s degree from MUSC. Jen currently works in home health care in addition to her time spent here at the I’On Club. You will see Jen and her team at the front desk when you enter the club. They are a great resource to our member and always look forward to visitors…stop by and say hello!
Director of High Performance Junior Development Mehdi was born in Paris, France and raised in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. He played junior tennis at Ottawa’s famous Rideau Tennis and Squash Club. Mehdi was an active athlete, earning a starting position in every high school discipline he pursued, including soccer, volleyball, basketball, Olympic handball, badminton and track and field. After studying journalism in college he moved to Myrtle Beach to begin a successful career with the town’s daily newspaper. He left the newspaper to become the assistant tennis professional at Prestwick Tennis and Swim Club in Myrtle Beach and a few years later, its Director of Swim and Tennis. Mehdi will bring extensive knowledge and experience to I’On Club’s junior and adult development and can sum up his tennis philosophy in three words: Care, Impact, and Performance.
